Sony DDU1615 comes with a specification of 16X max. DVD-ROM read speed and 40X max. CD-ROM read speed. It has a sustained transfer rate of 21,632 (KB/sec maximum) for DVD-ROM disc and a buffer memory of 512KB. In the DDU1615 DVD-ROM drive, Sony has implemented an improved mechanism to enhance the stability of the drive while playing an unbalance/uneven disc. This enhanced "Sony Advanced Spindle" (SAS) mechanism ensures that the disc and reading laser will be synchronized and read evenly on the surface of the disc. The other aim to implement the balancing mechanism is to minimize the media crash problem occurred at high speed spinning of the drive.
