What are "refurbished" computers?
Basically, refurbished computers are
used computers that have been tested,
repaired and/or cleaned to be in perfect
operating condition. We acquire used equipment
and thoroughly test all of the components
and carefully inspect each item. Any parts
that are defective or broken are replaced
and the unit is thoroughly cleaned. We
then warranty the item. We only acquire
quality, name brand equipment. So most
items arrive in good working order and
simply need cleaning and testing. No defective
or "lemon" systems are re-sold,
only items that are in good operating
condition are sold on Teksale.com. Occasionally,
items are re-sold that may have minor
issues that don't affect their overall
performance. These issues are always noted
in the item's listing and the price is
adjusted accordingly.
What are the advantages of buying
refurbished items?
Refurbished items are reconditioned to
be in excellent working condition but
are sold at a fraction of retail price.
Some items have tremendous savings when
compared to new prices. A majority of
the used equipment we receive comes from
corporate environments. Businesses will
frequently upgrade a number of computers
at one time and liquidate the older stock
for assets. The computers they sell off
are usually fairly recent technology and
would serve as useful systems to most
people.
Computer technology moves at a very rapid
pace. Every month manufacturers are introducing
faster CPU's, larger memory sizes, larger
hard drive sizes. When a new computer
product is introduced, it's retail price
is relatively high. That retail price
then quickly drops over a short period
of time. As a result, the latest and greatest
new PC may have a price tag several times
that of a refurbished system. But yet
the difference in performance isn't that
great. This is where buying refurbished
computers makes sense. You can save a
lot of money on a computer purchase but
still get a computer that does what you
need it to do.
What are "new-open box"
items?
These are items that are new, but the
retail box seal has been broken. Most
are items that have all of the internal
components still sealed in plastic, just
the box has been opened. Manufacturers
cannot sell an item as new once the seal
has been broken, so they must liquidate
the product. We acquire open box deals
and can sell these items at a discount.
The advantage is that these are new products
at great savings. We warranty all open
box products to ensure that you receive
a perfect operating item.
How do I get Windows installed on
a system that doesn't have it included?
You can install you're own Windows OS
or purchase one from us. If you purchase
a new Windows OS from us, we will install
it at no cost. We can also install your
Windows software for a small service fee.
If you are interested in this option,
please contact us for details.
Students can often purchase the latest
Windows OS for a minimal cost from their
school's campus bookstore. A low cost
alternative to Windows is the Linux OS.
This is an open-source OS that can be
obtained for a low or no cost.
What is needed on a computer
to protect from viruses and spyware?
Viruses and spyware are a big problem and
the problem is getting worse by the day.
Fortunately, you can protect your computer
from all viruses and spyware.
There are a few things you MUST have in
place if your computer is connected to the
internet:
- Windows Updates - make sure
your PC has all critical updates installed
and automatic updates is turned on. To run
updates, click start> Windows Update
or in Internet Explorer, Tools menu>
Windows Update. Turn on automatic updates
through Control Panel> Automatic Updates
- Antivirus Software with
all updates - We sell anti virus software
in our software section or you can download
a free version of AVG anti virus for free
at http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php.
An AV program must have all updates loaded
at all times otherwise it's not doing its
job since new viruses come out every day.
And it's usually the newly written viruses
that hit people.
- Anti Spyware software with
all updates - Again, the software is only
as good as it is updated so it must always
be up to date. A good free program is Spybot,
but there are many out there for free. You
can find & download these at www.download.com.
Most developers of this software offer a
free version and a pay version. The pay
versions usually run automatically and have
more features. But you can also get by with
a free version - they just need to be manually
updated & run to search for spyware.
- Firewall - a hardware or
software firewall program monitors traffic
on your computer and can block any unwanted
intrusions. Windows XP has a firewall built
in or you can download a free firewall for
previous Windows versions. A good free firewall
is ZoneAlarm at www.zonelabs.com.
It may sound like a lot of
hassle, but with these 4 components in place,
you'll be safe from viruses and spyware.
